No good deed…
So, as I have mentioned, I am in a financial quandry, and in order to get some extra money, I decided to donate plasma. Which was great! Until the part where I didn’t get paid because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and no one gets paid for their donation because cancer patients really need plasma.
ORLY?
I have donated blood for years. I have survived the incredibly painful process of donating bone marrow. I do it because I think it’s the right thing to do for people who need it. But now, I really needed some dough, and thought that spending two hours hooked up to a machine would be in some way helpful. I can’t help but feel cheated, especially because the “paid” part was not disclosed until AFTER the procedure.
Not to mention the strange logic involved. Apparently, no one can “just” donate plasma; you have to also donate platelets. Which is fine, until they inform you that you are being injected with anti-coagulant as well. You are taking my natural coagulant and simultaneously injecting me with a drug designed to prevent my blood clotting and thus preventing me from bleeding out? THAT was a fun moment.
The good news is that The Goonies was playing the entire time. Such are the meager victories.
