You’d think the Jesuits would be reasonable about this if any Catholic universities were going to be, but no. Heaven forfend the womenfolk with painful periods get some relief even if they’re celibate!

If a university does not completely articulate their policies, they should do so, and a lack of understanding can be blamed on the university.

However, if you attend a CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY and are suddenly flabbergasted that the university does not prescribe birth control or hand out condoms, then perhaps you should have done a little bit more research on the place before enrolling. Not to mention that such universities usually post the Honor Code fairly prominently.

I don’t agree that birth control is evil- I take it myself and find the Catholic restriction on it unnecessary-something I was scolded for questioning in Catholic school. But this is a private university that is governed through its religious doctrine. Were these students also surprised to see brothers and priests teaching? Were they surprised by religious iconography on campus?
